More snow is on the way to Connecticut Tuesday. Here’s when it will start, and how much to expect.

The third snowstorm to hammer the Northeast over the past week will cruise over Connecticut throughout the day Tuesday, from sunup to sundown, and deliver up to 5 inches of snow to parts of the state.

Forecasters expect every corner of Connecticut to receive at least 2 inches of snow starting overnight, first in the western edge of the state, as it moves east all day long and into Massachusetts late Tuesday evening.

The “quick-mover” will cap back-to-back-to-back storms that have collectively dropped multiple feet of snow across the region ahead of another potential snow threat early Thursday morning, said Gary Lessor, chief meteorologist of the Connecticut Weather Center at Western Connecticut State University.

Here’s what Lessor and the National Weather Service expect to see Tuesday:

1 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Snow will begin to fall across the western and southern halves of the state as the storm approaches from the west, but less than an inch of snow will accumulate.

7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Snow will fall steadily throughout the morning across most of the state with about 2 inches expected to accumulate by lunch time. Some areas, like Windsor Locks, may see an inch more and others, like communities in the southeastern corner, an inch less.

1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Snow continues to fall, sometimes heavily, in the northern half of the state and will hamper the evening commute. Another 2 inches could fall north of Interstate 84, including some higher amounts locally, while communities south of 84 receive only about another inch.

7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Wednesday

Snow will taper off across Connecticut with some minor additional accumulation possible, especially in the eastern half of the state as the storm continues east over Rhode Island and Cape Cod. Skies will clear up over Connecticut late Tuesday night and give way to colder overnight air and even some gusting winds along the coast.
