More storms likely in Memphis area during FedEx St. Jude Championship
The National Weather Service is predicting strong storms moving through the Shelby County area for the rest of the week starting Wednesday. The weather service said in a social media post parts of Shelby County are expected to experience severe storms with damaging winds, heavy rainfall and even the potential for tornados and hail.
The arrival of potentially severe weather comes just before the FedEx St. Jude Championship, which officially starts Thursday with related events on Wednesday. The event follows the PGA Tour's inclement weather policy.
Wednesday, there is the possibility of two waves of storms moving through the Mid-South. There is a 70% chance of rain during both the day and night on Wednesday, according to the NWS Memphis forecast.

But the storms will not stop on Wednesday. The NWS Memphis is forecasting rain and thunderstorms for the rest of the week. Thursday calls for mostly sunny weather but still a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. There is a 30% chance of rain on Thursday night.
Friday's forecast from the NWS is also predicting sunny skies, with the chance of showers and thunderstorms only at 30%. The chance of rain and thunderstorms lowers as the weekend goes on, with a 40% chance on Saturday and a 30% chance on Sunday.
