A busy intersection off the quickly developing Carolina Beach Road could see even more activity as plans progress for a townhome and apartment complex known as Midtown Junction.

Chaucer Creek Capital, a Raleigh-based development firm, has submitted plans to the city of Wilmington for 257 units on 23 acres at 3818 Carolina Beach Road and 3930 Independence Blvd. The proposed plans are expected to be brought before Wilmington’s technical review committee in late February.

Site plans show that the complex will consist of five buildings -- two four-story buildings and three two-story buildings -- with a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units.

The two-story buildings will house 15 townhomes, while the four-story buildings will consist of 242 apartments.

The complex will also include a leasing center, 472 parking spaces, 10 EV parking spaces, 32 bicycle spaces and a bike barn.

More: Gas station, restaurants and other retail could be coming to southern New Hanover County

The multifamily housing complex is expected to generate 1,774 vehicle trips per day, with 105 trips in peak morning hours and 135 trips during peak afternoon and evening hours.

Oak Grove Presbyterian Church and a portion of the Southgate subdivision line one side of the site, which sits on two parcels of land. One of the parcels, which site on 10 acres, is owned by Cameron Company Timber, LLC, and the other 13-acre parcel was owned by Life Community Church of Wilmington, until Midtown Junction purchased the property on Nov. 27 for $3.25 million.

A portion of the site also sits near the Crossroads at Independence shopping center, which opened in late 2022.

Efforts to reach Chaucer Creek Capital regarding details of the proposed plans were unsuccessful.
