Chilly winds in Phoenix, frost over weekend

The National Weather Service said that colder temperatures will continue to prevail into the weekend for the Valley.

"This past week was definitely below average, especially temperature wise," Jessica Leffel, National Weather Service Phoenix meteorologist, said. "It's not normal to have as cold temperatures as we have been having, specifically our morning temperatures."

On Thursday morning the temperature was a low of 36 degrees and a high of 63 degrees in the daytime. This is 10 to 11 degrees below average compared to the normal morning readings in the Phoenix area, said Leffel.

Thursday will see clear skies with the northwest wind between five to 15 miles per hour. The wind gusts could go as high as 20 miles per hour.

The weather service also warns that Valley suburbs will fall below freezing this weekend through Wednesday morning.

Wind gusts continue in southern Arizona

Southern Arizona will see clear skies this weekend with a forecast of continued low temperatures.

Tucson will be at a high of 56 degrees in the daytime with a low of 27 degrees on Thursday morning, according to the weather service. Tucson is looking at the coldest January low since 2019.

Chilly wind is expected to come through the east with gusts up to 30 miles per hour. However, the weekend is predicted to be warmer than this past week with high temperatures in the mid-60s, with Saturday the warmest at 67 degrees.

Below zero wind chills in northern Arizona

Temperatures will slightly warm up throughout the weekend, but until then, northern Arizona will see wind chills in the single digits to below zero.

The National Weather Service in Flagstaff warns people to bundle up during the windy weather. Wind gusts will go as high as 15 to 25 miles per hour, according to the weather service. The high will be 28 degrees in the daytime with a low of 13 degrees.

Sunny days will prevail over the weekend. Friday will have a low of 35 degrees and a high of 45 degrees, Saturday will have a low of 40 degrees and a high of 50 degrees and Sunday will have a low of 42 degrees and a high of 52 degrees. The next chance of snow is expected to come early next week.
