Moredock goes up for approval as Corporation Counsel before full city council

Corporation counsel Gregory Moredock is before the full city council for approval at the Municipal Building West Tuesday.

Two other city directors also await votes.

Meanwhile, a familiar name has been nominated by Mayor Misty Buscher hair as Chair of the city's liquor control commission.

Former Ward 6 Ald. Kristin DiCenso's appointment goes on first reading Tuesday, with a possible vote in two weeks.

DiCenso confirmed to The State Journal-Register that the appointment is for the Chair.

Moredock joined the city on June 1 after serving as general counsel for the Illinois Municipal League since November. Prior to that, he was in private law practice.

Gregory C. Tally will be voted on as executive director of Oak Ridge Cemetery and James Sullivan faces approval as director of the city's information systems division.

Tally most recently served as vice president of mortgage lending at Marine Bank. He has an associate degree in mortuary and funeral science and a bachelor's degree in science and health care administration from Southern Illinois University.

With Lincoln's Tomb, Oak Ridge is the second most visited cemetery in the nation with almost one million visitors annually.

Sullivan has been manager of technical support and has been with the city since 2004.

DiCenso, who served as alderwoman from 2017 to 2023, did not seek reelection in April.

The liquor control deputy commissioners review licenses, permits and certificate applications for establishments and provide recommendations to the mayor, who serves as liquor control commissioner.

The commission meets monthly.

The current commissioners are Mark Ginster, who is the chair; Steven Nardulli and Ellen Bruce.

The commissioners serve at the pleasure of the mayor.
