Morenci softball tops Hudson in non-conference matchup

MORENCI — Morenci softball picked up a non-conference win Thursday as the Bulldogs topped Hudson in a eight-inning thriller, 7-6.

Tigers (10-7) led 5-3 on the heels of a 2-run home run by Lauren Hill in the sixth inning, but Morenci (5-9) battled back. Lily Betz and Rylee Hallett had back-to-back hits to make if 5-4 before Skye Molitierno forced extras with an RBI groundout in the seventh.

Hudson plated one in the top of the eighth, but Hallett drove in Betz again with an RBI and then ended the game with a walk-off wild pitch.

Betz got the win the circle as she struck out four.

Teagan Arredondo took the loss for Hudson as she gave up four runs, on four hits, seven walks and five strikeouts.

Hill was 3-for-4 with a double, home run and three RBIs while Jozlyn Weber hit a 2-run double while Bryanna Borck hit a triple.

Adrian at Ypsilanti (DH): At Ypsilanti, the Maples picked up a pair of dominating Southeastern Conference White Division wins, 20-4 and 17-0 in four innings.

Natalie Gilliam got the win in Game 1 for Adrian as she tossed all four innings and gave up four runs, on three hits and nine strikeouts.

The Maples (7-14, 2-4 SEC White) tallied 16 hits and 20 runs in the opener as Lauren Fraser led with three hits, including a double, and five RBIs. Mariah McKinney, Mercedez Salazar, Katelyn Iott, and Taylor Rodriguez all had two hits with Salazar and McKinney driving in four each.

Ciara Ernst got the win in Game 2 as she tossed all four innings and giving up one hit and striking out five.

Adrian posted another 16 hits with Iott recording three with a solo home run and three RBIs. Isabelle Jeffrey had two hits with an inside the park home run and four RBIs and Alicia Garcia had two hits.

Columbia Central at Onsted (DH): At Onsted, the Wildcats battled with Golden Eagles, but ultimately dropped both games, 12-4 and 17-15.

Emma Hunt took the loss for Onsted (2-10, 1-5 LCAA) as she went 6 1/3 innings and gave up 12 runs, nine earned, on 12 hits, a walk and seven strikeouts.

Alie Osgood went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI while Olivia Harding went 2-for-3 with a run and Abby Sutka hit a double with an RBI.

Hunt took the loss in relief after Jordyn Taylor got the start and went 5 1/3 innings and gave up 11 runs, eight earned, on eight hits and five walks.

Ashleigh Smith went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs while Harding was 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs and Kaylee Rankin went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and four runs.

BASEBALL

Clinton 12, Columbia Central 1: At Brooklyn, the Redwolves picked up a Lenawee County Athletic Association against the Golden Eagles before Game 2 was suspended in the third innings with Columbia Central up 5-3.

Clinton (14-4, 5-2 LCAA) was led by Ryan Tschirhart as he got the win and had three hits. Cole Breitenwischer and Zach Kovach each had three hits as well.
