Morgan Freeman Safe After Emergency Plane Landing

Morgan Freeman was involved in a hair-raising emergency landing, after one of the tyres on a plane he was travelling in burst.

The star’s plane, an SJ30 jet, took off from Clarksdale, Mississippi, on Saturday.

But it was later forced to make a forced landing in Tunica, around 40 miles away, where it then skidded off the runway, according to reports from the local sheriff’s department.

Just Freeman and the aircraft’s pilot were on the plane at the time of the incident, and no one was hurt.

In a statement to Entertainment Tonight, the ‘Shawshank Redemption’ star confirmed that despite a scare, he and the pilot were safe.

“I appreciate the concern and prayers for our safety,” he said.

“I was on my plane on the way to Texas to shoot a segment for The Story of God. Sometimes things don’t go as planned and a tire blew on take-off which caused other problems.

“But thanks to my excellent pilot Jimmy Hobson we landed safely without a scratch. I cannot say the same about my plane.”

Freeman is next up in 'Going In Style’, alongside Michael Caine, Alan Arkin, Matt Dillon and Christopher Lloyd, a heist comedy directed by Zach Braff.

It’s due out next year.
