ELLWOOD CITY − On Wednesday, local celebrity Morgan Gruber is bringing her impressive sound to the Ellwood City Community Plaza stage.

The 17-year-old Fombell area resident is excited to be performing at the plaza.

"It is super fun doing gigs," she said. "I haven't had the opportunity to perform outdoors, so I am really looking forward to being in the plaza."

Gruber said she will be singing a variety of songs including country and pop.

"Country music is my favorite, and since I was on 'American Idol' I'm even more certain of that," she said.

When auditioning for "American Idol," Gruber received excellent reviews from the judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. Her performance garnered praise, but in the end, she did not make the final cut.

Being on "American Idol" was an amazing experience, and with Gruber's talent and energy, she is motivated to pursue her career as a singer/songwriter.

In July, she is moving to Nashville to follow her career in the "Music City" where it all happens.

She has performed at a number of venues in the Ellwood City area, but the large plaza will give more of her fans the opportunity to enjoy the music.

Gruber's mother, Traci Gruber, said that she and her husband are not musically talented, but they love music and always have it playing in the house.

She said Morgan loved music as soon as she could speak.

"She had a passion for music, and she would only watch movies that had songs, and she loved sing-alongs. When she was very young, we got her a CD player and she would carry it around," Traci said.

Music continues to be Gruber's passion, and she is sharing it on the plaza stage.

The concert is at 5:30 p.m. July 6 and will be a part of the second Wander Ellwood event in downtown Ellwood City, as well as the ongoing Ellwood City Summer Concert Series.

In case of rain, the concert will be held in the Lincoln High School auditorium.

Bagpiper Bryan Crable will also be walking around town performing as part of Wander Ellwood.
