Morgan Street shooting suspect arrested, second suspect still sought

Henry Harris III was on murder charges in connection with last year's Morgan Street shooting.

The 27-year-old Harris faces the charge of Second-Degree Murder, which carries a mandatory life sentence if found guilty. Kereon Alexander, 22, is still being sought by the police department in relation to the shooting.

Harris was arrested by Houma Police Department on March 17 through the assistance of the New Orleans Police Department and is now being held in the Terrebonne Parish Jail.

The shooting occurred at 409 Morgan St, and killed 56-year-old Leonora Menard. According to her daughter, Shamika Menard, the two were inside the home when shots rang out from outside, traveled through the front of the building, and struck her mother.

The motive is still under investigation, but police and nearby residents think that Menard was the intended target, said Chief of Police Travis Theroit. According to many locals who remained anonymous for fear of retaliation, the house was a known location for buying drugs.
