With about 10 minutes to spare before taking the stage, country music star Morgan Wallen canceled his Sunday concert at Ole Miss in Oxford, leaving fans in an uproar.

Wallen, who performed to a huge crowd Saturday at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, told fans on Instagram he had to cancel Sunday’s performance last minute after losing his voice.

“I really thought I’d be able to take the stage and it kills me to deliver this so close to showtime, but my voice is shot and I am unable to sing,” Wallen said in his Instagram story. “I am so sorry, I promise you guys I tried everything I could.”

About 30,000 people were inside the stadium waiting for Wallen to perform, WAPT-TV reported. Soon after the stadium announced the cancellation, many took to Facebook to share their frustrations.

Many were upset that Wallen waited so long to cancel. Both opening acts had already performed.

“As much as I love him, this is low,” Jenna Thames of Wiggins said on Facebook. “They let the whole stadium fill up, people bought $60 parking passes, drinks, etc.”

Thames, who was there for the concert, said the announcement was made 30 minutes after the last opening act.

Mary Beth Skinner, who lives in Tuscaloosa, said Wallen has been her favorite artist for three years. But after Sunday’s incident, she said she won’t be listening to him anymore.

“I have truly loved Morgan Wallen from day one,” she wrote on Facebook. “But the fact that he let us come to his concert tonight, buy his merchandise, spend hundreds of dollars on drinks (and) let three openers play before he decided to cancel his show because he ‘lost his voice’ means I have no respect for him anymore.”

The cancellation of the concert also led to people comparing Wallen to Taylor Swift, who is currently performing many nights a week on her Eras Tour.

“Y’all can hate on (Taylor Swift) all you want, but she ain’t going to disappoint her fans,” one Facebook commenter posted. Others pointed out Taylor is also changing outfits many times and singing on stage for hours.

Wallen said on Instagram fans would be refunded for their tickets.

Ashlynne Davis, 25, said she hasn’t been able to receive a refund through the service where she bought her tickets. The South Carolina woman and her friend drove eight hours to see Wallen and booked a vacation rental in Oxford.

“I will not be coming back to see him so now I also have to try and sell my tickets,” she said. “He also lost me as a fan. He could have at least come on stage to say something and apologize in person, like a man.”
