Country music fans across Mississippi are furious Monday and are venting on social media after country superstar Morgan Wallen bailed on a concert in Oxford Sunday with nearly 60,000 fans already packed into Vaught Hemingway Stadium at Ole Miss.

It was to be the second performance in Oxford, after Wallen performed to a sold-out stadium Saturday night. However, after two opening acts performed Sunday, it was announced Wallen would not be performing because of issues with his voice.

"Ladies and gentlemen, unfortunately Morgan has lost his voice and is unable to perform tonight," a message on a screen at the stadium read. "Therefore, tonight's show has been canceled. Please make your way safely to the stadium exits. Refunds for tonight's event will be available at point of purchase beginning tomorrow."

However, Ridgeland attorney Benjamin Philley took to Facebook Sunday night to advise against that.

"Folks, if you spent hard-earned money to attend the Morgan Wallen concert tonight, do not accept a refund that requires a signed release," the post stated. "The sudden cancellation raises red flags and should be investigated. A refund of the ticket price is insufficient to compensate us for our actual out-of-pocket expense. Like everyone affected, I want answers and will not rest until I get them. More information from our legal team investigating this matter will be forthcoming."

Philley is a part of the Ridgeland firm of Kilpatrick and Philley. Efforts to reach him Monday morning were not immediately successful.

Emails to representatives for Morgan Wallen Monday morning also were not immediately successful.

One Twitter commenter said, "Completely disappointed in @MorganWallen!! Been sitting in this stadium for 3 hrs and he just announced the show is canceled!!!"

Another said, "Hey Morgan Wallen, Taylor Swift never cancels. Be better!"

"Morgan Wallen not being able to sing seems like a ridiculous excuse to cancel his show considering that never stopped him before," another Twitter fan mused.

Thousands of other comments suggest many other reasons Wallen did not perform on Sunday.

Russ Latino of the Magnolia Tribune tweeted, "Field seats for Morgan Wallen: $800 Hotel Room: $500 Full Tank of Gas: $80 Souvenir T-Shirts: $80 Sitting in Vaught Hemingway since 5 PM only to have Wallen cancel because Oxford did indeed win the party last night: Priceless."

Yet another Twitter fan said, "Dang, Morgan Wallen just lost the party."

Controversies are nothing new for Wallen, who is currently the top-drawing country music star in the world.

He was caught on camera in 2021 outside a home in Nashville, Tennessee, yelling profanities and a racial slur. He apologized at the time but was suspended indefinitely from his label and his music was pulled by radio stations and streaming services.

The 29-year-old singer was also once thrown out of Kid Rock's bar.

In a statement later in the evening for Wallen said he started losing his voice immediately after Saturday's show.

"I spent (Sunday) resting up, talking to my doctor and working through my vocal exercises trying to get better. I really thought I'd be able to take the stage and it kills me to deliver this so close to showtime but my voice is shot and I am unable to sing."

Philadelphia, Mississippi, native Hardy was one of the opening acts for Wallen.
