Morning attack on Kharkiv: Death toll rises to three

The number of civilians killed in the Russian attack on Kharkiv on the morning of 18 August has risen to three. A child is among those killed.

Quote: "A four-storey residential building and the roof of a tram depot in the Slobidskyi neighbourhood of Kharkiv were damaged after being hit by a Russian missile."

 

Details: Early reports indicate that three civilians have been killed in the missile strike, including a boy born in 2009. Another 17 civilians have been injured. Search and rescue crews were able to rescue eight people, including two children, from under the rubble of the destroyed building.

 

The SES reports that there was no fire at the site of the strike. Rescue workers keep dismantling the rubble and searching for the bodies of other residents of the building killed in the strike.

  • Russian forces attacked the Saltivka neighbourhood, hitting a residential building where several of the residents had hearing impairments, on the night of 17 August.

  • Russian forces carried out five missile strikes on Kharkiv in the early hours of 18 August, hitting the Slobidskyi and Kholodnohirskyi neighbourhoods.

  • Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the Kharkiv Oblast Military Administration, has reported that at least nine civilians have been killed and 35 injured following the Russian attacks on Kharkiv on the night of 17 August and the morning of 18 August. Another two people were killed and two injured in Krasnohrad.
