According to the NEA’s website, Read Across America was launched in 1998 and is the nation’s largest celebration of reading. This year-round program focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources that are about everyone, for everyone. The day itself occurs each year on the birthday of children’s book author Dr. Seuss and is an opportunity for students, teachers, parents, and community members to get together and take part in reading activities to celebrate the joy of reading.
