Morning Pointe hosts Father's Day car show

Jun. 13—The Father's Day Antique Car Show was hosted by Richmond Morning Pointe to celebrate its 25th anniversary, as a senior living residence, on Saturday.

The event was hosted on June 11 from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m and consisted of live music, classic cars and food vendors.

There were about 18 antique cars and trucks for people to explore.

Gospel and country music was performed by Sam L. Smith, followed by Holly Wheeler, who is currently Miss Kentucky. This performance was her last stop during her reign as Miss Kentucky, Wheeler shared.

"I come from the great place of Powell County. So I'm from Clay City, Kentucky, (I'm a) small town gal," Wheeler said.

The first song Wheeler sang was Dolly Parton's "Jolene."

"One of my favorite people to sing is Dolly Parton," Wheeler said. "I have loved her since I was little and I figured I would do my favorite song of all time for you and today we are going to sing about that red-headed hussy Jolene."

Cristy Winkler, executive director of Morning Pointe, said residents look forward to these events whether they bring their family or just socialize with other residents.

"Every community does that, but each community chooses how they want to do it. So it may be that you take your residents or your father's to a car show event," Winkler said. "Maybe you just have a car show parade where people just drive through and leave. But with this being our 25th year anniversary, I wanted to make it a little bit bigger event so that's why we actually posted it here."

Morning Pointe resident and Residence Council President Joyce Timmerman moved from Florida in September. She said she loves Kentucky and staying at Morning Pointe.

"I didn't know anything about where anything was, but I'm learning my way around. I love it here," Timmerman said.
