OU women's basketball survives against UT Arlington

The OU women’s basketball team faced a stiff test against the University of Texas-Arlington on Sunday at TCU’s Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, but the 16th-ranked Sooners’ offense proved to be too much.

Led by a 21-point performance from Taylor Robertson, OU defeated UT Arlington 89-80 in the Maggie Dixon Classic, improving to 4-1 on the season.

Robertson finished 5-of-9 shooting — all attempts were behind the 3-point line — and made 6 of 6 free throws.

The Sooners had four other players score in double figures as Madi Williams had 16, Skylar Vann had 14, Nevaeh Tot had 11 and Liz Scott had 10.

OU led 48-36 at halftime, but UT Arlington outscored the Sooners by five in the third quarter and even had a 74-73 lead after making a shot with four minutes left in the fourth.

But Williams scored five unanswered points after that, and the Sooners held off UT Arlington from there.

Leading UT Arlington’s (2-2) offense was Starr Jacobs, who had 16 points. Jireh Washington added 14, and Nya Threatt had 12.

Next up for OU is a road game at Arkansas State. The teams will face off at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker done for season with knee injury

Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker will miss the rest of the season after injuring his left knee in the fourth quarter of the ninth-ranked Volunteers loss to South Carolina.

Tennessee announced Sunday that Hooker had a torn ACL and thanked the fifth-year senior transfer from Virginia Tech for being part of the Volunteers' resurgence.

Hooker has been one of the best quarterbacks in the country and a leading Heisman Trophy contender as the Volunteers (9-2) became a surprise entry into the College Football Playoff race.

He has thrown 27 touchdown passes and just two interceptions this season, directing the highest scoring team in the country at 46.5 points per game.
