Fayette County tornado damage identified

The National Weather Service has identified more potential tornado-related damage in Fayette County after confirming a tornado there on Friday.

Meteorologists were investigating more reports of tornadic damage in the Connellsville and Dunbar areas, but said in a social media post Sunday that more research was needed to determine if it was the continuation of a tornado previously confirmed in the Mill Run area on Friday or a separate tornado.

Six people were hurt in the EF-2 tornado near Mill Run when homes, trees, power lines and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park resort and campground were damaged. The tornado with winds peaking at 120 miles per hour passed through the Springfield Township region around 2:30 a.m. Friday.

The area is just north of Ohiopyle, where several hundred trees were downed along the Great Allegheny Passage at Ohiopyle State Park. Five miles of the trail were closed over the weekend for cleanup between Ohiopyle and Connellsville but have since reopened after park staff cleared the debris.
