Morning rush resumes in Beijing as COVID curbs ease

STORY: Residents cycled on the roads alongside heavy traffic as normal work resumed and traffic bans were lifted on Monday in most areas of Beijing. Restaurants, which have been restricted to takeaway since early May, opened for business as dine-in service in most parts of Beijing also resumed.

Beijing and the commercial hub Shanghai have been returning to normal in recent days after two months of painful lockdowns to crush outbreaks of the Omicron variant.

China's capital Beijing reported five new local symptomatic cases on Sunday (June 5), compared with 16 a day earlier, and one new local asymptomatic case versus three the previous day, according to the local government.
