Late-morning shooting in Hopewell leaves one man injured

HOPEWELL — Another shooting investigation has been launched in Hopewell after a man was shot in the back late Tuesday morning.

The shooting occurred around 11:35 a.m. in the 1000 block of Smithfield Avenue in the center section of the city. First-responders to the scene found several spent shell casings on the road, according to an email from police.

While investigators were at the scene, a man showed up at John Randolph Medical Center with a gunshot wound in his back. Police were able to identify him as the Smithfield Avenue shooting victim.

Police said the victim is expected to physically recover from his injury.

No motive or suspect information has been released. An investigation is ongoing.
