Apple TV+'s The Morning Show debuted to very mixed reviews earlier this month, and its director reckons it's because of "Apple haters".

The Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon series holds a 63% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but has gained much more favour with audiences, with a 95% score.

However, director Mimi Leder thinks the lack of love from critics is because they want to see Apple's streaming service "fail".

"I just felt there were a lot of Apple haters and wanting Apple to fail," she said at Code Media 2019 in Hollywood. "The reviews very much felt like an attack on Apple."

Showrunner Kerry Ehrin also described some reviews as "pretty attack-ish", adding: "There were a lot of very well-tuned Apple jokes."
