This Morning saw an unexpected change in presenters today (November 18), as Alison Hammond stood in for regular host Holly Willoughby.

Fans tuned in expecting to see Phillip Schofield with his usual co-host Holly and were surprised to see him standing outside by the Television Centre Christmas tree with Alison instead.

Phillip explained that Holly was enjoying a "well-deserved day off" today and that Alison would be taking over for the day – Alison even got to press the all-important button to switch on the Christmas tree lights.

Alison's appearance follows tabloid speculation that she might soon be presenting on a more regular basis alongside Dermot O'Leary, although This Morning producers have said that no new additions to the presenting line-up have been announced yet.

Fans were rather surprised at the last-minute switch and some wondered whether Alison was completing a screen test, with many excited to see her paired with Phillip:

Other viewers expressed their concern for Holly, whose day off from the show was not announced in advance:

Alison seemed to have a great time presenting with Phillip, although she did get a bit of a scare when she mistook a decorative suit of armour on the wall to celebrate this year's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! for a person, saying she had been distracted by "that big tin person".

She admitted that she had thought she was about to be attacked, leaving Phillip in hysterics, and he later joked that the armour had been "asked to leave the studio".

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
