Boonton Twp. man charged in his father's alleged slaying; investigation under way

A Boonton Township man was charged in his father's Christmas Eve killing, Morris County's prosecutor and Boonton Township police said Monday.

Kyle Meyer, 33, was charged with the killing of his father, Gregory Meyer, with whom he shared a home on Old Denville Road, officials said. Police responded to an emergency call at the home at about 1:15 p.m. Sunday and quickly determined that Kyle Meyer was a suspect, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said.

Kyle Meyer was detained in Paterson around 9 p.m. Sunday, officials said.

He was charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon. He is being held at the Morris County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing, the prosecutor said.

The Morris County medical examiner will conduct an examination of the victim, officials said.
