Morton man involved in fatal crash on state Route 7

Feb. 12—A 45-year-old Des Moines, Washington, man died in a hospital after he was involved in a head-on collision on state Route 7 in Pierce County on Monday.

The second involved driver, a 23-year-old Morton man, transported himself to the hospital after the crash for medical care, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The crash reportedly occurred while the Des Moines man was driving a 1995 Toyota Camry southbound in the northbound lane of state Route 7 west of Eatonville, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The Morton man was driving a 2016 Ford Transit northbound in the northbound lane and collided with the Toyota at milepost 31 just after 8:05 a.m. on Feb. 12.

Both drivers attempted to avoid each other, colliding on the center line and coming to rest in the southbound lanes, according to the state patrol.

The roadway was closed for four hours following the crash.

As of Monday afternoon, the state patrol had not determined whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
