Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was sentenced on February 2 to almost three years in prison on a charge of violating his probation while recuperating in Germany following his poisoning, TASS reported.

Navalny was given a three-and-a-half-year sentence during the hearing, with 10 months subtracted for time spent under house arrest.

His supporters took to the streets of Moscow to protest on Tuesday night following the verdict. More than 1,300 people were arrested, human rights watchdog OVDInfo.org reported.
