‘The most delicious beer I’ve ever had!’ Poll finds the best brewery in Whatcom County

We asked readers where to find the best brewery in Whatcom County and the votes are in, just in time for National Beer Day on April 7.

The poll had 16 local brewery options in Whatcom County that brew their own beer onsite including Twin Sisters Brewing Company, Boundary Bay Brewing Co., Structures Brewing and Kulshan Brewing Company.

The unscientific poll received 545 votes.

Best brewery in Whatcom County

The North Fork Brewery received 120 votes to top the list of the best brewery in Whatcom County.

The brewery is located in Deming, about a 35-minute drive from downtown Bellingham. The brewery is also a pizzeria and restaurant and serves French onion soup, lasagna, salads, pizzas, oven-roasted sandwiches and calzones.

The brewery makes about three and a half barrels, over 100 gallons of beer, each batch and makes IPAs, ales and lagers.

The brewery is also well-loved online, receiving a 4.5-star rating from 171 reviews on Yelp.

The North Fork Brewery is open from 1-9 p.m. Monday through Friday and from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and is at 6186 Mt. Baker Highway in Deming.

Following The North Fork Brewery with 90 votes was Kulshan Brewing Company.

Kulshan Brewing Company has 14 beers that are available year-round, as well as seasonal offerings made at two brewery locations in Bellingham.

The brewery is also well-loved online, receiving 4.5-star ratings on Yelp for its Sunnyland and Roosevelt locations, and a 5-star rating for its Trackside location from a total of 177 reviews.

Beer enthusiasts can visit both breweries for a drink and food, as well as Kulshan Trackside Beer Garden that will open Friday, May 5, for the summer and be open Friday through Saturday in May and every day starting in June at 298 W, Laurel St. in Bellingham, according to previous reporting from The Bellingham Herald.

Kulshan’s Sunnyland location is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday and is at 2238 James St. Kulshan’s Roosevelt K2 location has the same hours as Sunnyland and is at 1538 Kentucky St. in Bellingham.

In third place was Fringe Brewing with 69 votes, followed by Wander Brewing with 44 votes, and Boundary Bay Brewing Co. with 43 votes.
