The most expensive neighborhood in Louisiana is home to mansions and New Orleans royalty

An area of New Orleans lined with million-dollar mansions and centered around one of the most popular green spaces in the city has been named the most expensive neighborhood in Louisiana by an online lending website.

Audubon, an area inside NOLA’s Uptown neighborhood, has an average home price of nearly $1.6 million, according to CashNetUSA. The online lender that offers loans and lines of credit to their customers ranked the most expensive neighborhoods in each state by using data from Zillow.

The Audubon neighborhood is arguably one of the most Instagrammable in New Orleans, with streets lined with historic homes that were built hundreds of years ago. It’s also home to Audubon Place, a swanky gated community where New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson lives. Celebrities have also been known to stay there when they are filming movies in the Big Easy.

Audubon was ranked the 12th best New Orleans neighborhood to live in by Niche.

“Living in Audubon offers residents a dense suburban feel and most residents own their home,” Nice said. “In Audubon there are a lot of bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and parks. Many young professionals live in Audubon and residents tend to be liberal.”

Uptown is one of the larger boroughs in the Crescent City and the Audubon neighborhood is home to the Audubon Zoo and Audubon Park. St. Charles Avenue, a major parade route in New Orleans, also runs through the area.

Tulane University and Loyola are minutes away from the heart of Audubon, and are grocery stores like Whole Foods and Costco.

There are more than a dozen luxury mansions for sale for $2 million or more in Audubon right now, according to Zillow. The most expensive is a seven-bedroom, eight-bathroom estate minutes away from the streetcar line that has a pool and modern amenities. It’s listed at $4.94 million.

Audubon is about 65 miles away from Biloxi, and the neighborhood is closer to the Coast than CashNetUSA’s most expensive area in Mississippi, which is Oxford.
