This is the most expensive neighborhood in Mississippi. Take a look inside 1 of the homes

A small town near the state’s largest university is a trendy area for real estate — and the priciest.

A recent report by online lender CashNetUSA ranked a Oxford as the most expensive “neighborhood” in Mississippi. Because of the town’s population of 26,000, the report counted all of Oxford as one neighborhood.

The report found that the average Oxford home sold for $595,000, according to Zillow. More than half the homes currently on the market are listed for $400,000 or more. But, chances are $400,000 will only get you a three bedroom townhome.

Based on the homes currently listed on Zillow, townhomes are a popular choice. The most expensive property listed in Oxford is a luxury townhouse in the heart of downtown. The 1,248-square-foot unit is going for $1,150,000.

Oxford’s kind of luxury is still a bargain compared to its counterparts in other states. Homes in Mountain Brook, a wooded, hilly enclave of Birmingham, Alabama, average $1,758,360. Georgia’s pricey Sea Island averages properties in the $5.4 million range.

The country’s priciest neighborhood is Manalapan in Palm Beach County, Florida. The average home in this neighborhood where Billy Joel and Don King are your neighbors is $39,761,000.
