It's no secret that Austin loves its pets, and a new study is providing further insight into the city's favorite pet names.
The Top Pet Names Report comes from Rover, a pet care website offering dog walking, pet sitting and more. The study covers favorite names for the entire U.S., but the website also delved into Austin trends. Here's what you need to know:
Top dog names in Austin
The top five Austin male dog names are, in order from first to fifth place:
Charlie
Max
Bear
Ollie
Cooper
However, Cooper is on a downward trend.
The top five female dog names are, in the same order:
Luna
Bella
Lucy
Daisy
Lola
Top cat names in Austin
The top four Austin male cat names are, in order from first to fourth place:
Leo
Oliver
Charlie
Milo
Loki
The top five female cat names are, in the same order:
Luna
Cleo
Lily
Callie
Kitty
Both Callie and Kitty are on an upward trend.

What other pet names are trending in Austin?
In Austin, the name Martini is up 615% as the number one trending dog name, and the name Monkey is up 921% as the number one trending cat name.
Also seeing an uptick are the names Steve at a 55% increase, Tito at a 39% increase and Willie at a 23% increase. Rover claims Steve comes from Austin native wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin, Tito from the Austin vodka brand of the same name and Willie from Austin favorite singer Willie Nelson.
What about nationwide pet name trends?
Charlie is the most popular male dog name in the U.S. after an 11-year first-place run by the name Max. Oliver is the most popular male cat name.
As for the ladies, Luna is the most popular female dog and cat name not just in Austin but across the nation.
Kelce snagged the spot for number one trending dog name in the nation thanks to Travis Kelce of Kansas City Chiefs and Taylor Swift fame. Taking the number two trending dog name spot is Wednesday after the character Wednesday Addams from the aptly named 2022 Netflix series "Wednesday."
Beer is up 330% for dogs, Prosecco is up 793% for cats, Green Bean is up 217% for dogs, Swift is up 133% for cats thanks to Taylor Swift and Ken is up 79% for dogs thanks to the film "Barbie."
