The most popular summer holiday destination in the UK might surprise you
Bath has been voted the most popular destination for a summer staycation. The beautiful city located in Somerset nabbed the top spot in a roundup of the UK's 10 most popular holiday destinations in the UK.
Research carried out by holidaycottages.co.uk showed that 21.3 million visits to the city were clocked during 2018. On top of that, over 77,000 posts about Bath were shared on social media, and over 27% of Brits said they have visited in the past five years.
And it's not hard to see why. The pretty city is bursting with rich cultural history, and a visit to the Roman baths is a must. The medieval Bath Abbey is also a must-see (you can even climb 212 steps to the tower), while taking a dip in the natural hot spring water at Thermae Bath Spa is a must-do – the spectacular rooftop pool offers 360-degree views of the city.
The beautiful Georgian houses at No.1 Royal Crescent are stunning, and culture vultures will love the Fashion Museum and the Victoria Art Gallery. Coming in a close second on the most popular list is Edinburgh, with Brighton, Bournemouth and Oxford round up the top five.
