An announcement from 1492 New World Latin Cuisine, 1207 N Walker Ave., makes it the latest in a series of restaurant closures.

The restaurant took to Facebook recently to share the news, saying it will close its Midtown location after 16 years, and the last day of service is planned for Oct. 14. However, the restaurant also shared that its Casady Square location, 9213 N Penn Place, will remain open and will move to operating seven days a week once the Midtown closure occurs.

While some may feel a sense of concern at the recent string of businesses choosing to vacate their Midtown locations, the building owner views the situation through a different lens. Midtown Renaissance owns both the space occupied by 1492 as well as the space formerly occupied by Louie's.

"Midtown Renaissance is grateful for the contributions that both 1492 and Louie’s made to Midtown. 1492 was in the neighborhood for 16 years and Louie's was here over 10 years — we will miss them both," said Chris Fleming, partner with Midtown Renaissance. "Interest in both buildings is strong, and we look forward to this opportunity to continue to grow the neighborhood."

Fleming said the group plans to continue searching for the right fit for new tenants and is confident in what is ahead for the district.

"We are sensitive to the overall tenant mix throughout the neighborhood, and we will keep with our standard practice of being thoughtful in finding the right users for our properties," he said. "We are very bullish on Midtown, as evidenced by our continued investment in the district.  We are more excited than ever about its future."
