The most salacious details from Prince Harry’s memoir ‘Spare’

Prince Harry certainly didn’t spare many juicy details in his new memoir.

The Duke of Sussex’s “Spare” is jam-packed with shocking accounts, from physical fights with his brother William to being discarded as the titular “spare” by his father King Charles.

While “Spare” won’t officially hit shelves until Tuesday, many media outlets obtained advance copies after it was accidentally released early in Spain. Here are some the spiciest details, according to Harry himself.

William attacked Harry in 2019 during an argument about Meghan Markle

Harry said his older brother called his wife “difficult,” “rude” and “abrasive” during a fight at Harry’s Nottingham Cottage home on the grounds of Kensington Palace. William then grabbed Harry by the collar and shoved him backwards into a dog food bowl, according to the book.

The bowl “cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me,” Harry wrote.

Harry ordered William to leave the room, and William eventually returned to apologize, according to Harry’s account.

William asked him to keep the incident from Meghan, but she noticed the bruises on his back.

Harry killed 25 people while serving with the British Army in Afghanistan

The prince was characteristically nonchalant about his time in the British Army, which he has previously described as the happiest of his life.

Of killing 25 people, he wrote: “It’s not a number that fills me with satisfaction, but nor does it embarrass me,” according to the Times of London. He said he saw the war as similar to a chess game.

Harry said all his killing was done as an Apache helicopter co-pilot gunner in 2012 and 2013.

Unsurprisingly, neither British military leaders nor the Taliban appreciated Harry’s detached recounting of his war experience.

“Mr. Harry! The ones you killed were not chess pieces, they were humans; they had families who were waiting for their return,” Taliban leader Anas Haqqani wrote on Twitter.

Harry lost his virginity at age 17 behind a pub

“Spare” confirms Harry’s reputation as a party animal teenager was well-earned. The prince wrote about trying cocaine for the first time when he was 17, smoking weed in the Kensington Palace gardens and trying psilocybin “magic” mushrooms.

Harry also revealed he lost his virginity to an older woman — whom he does not name — in a field behind a popular bar. He called it a “humiliating episode.”

William and Kate allegedly pushed Harry to wear the notorious Nazi costume

Harry infamously wore a Nazi costume to a party in 2005, when he was in his early 20s.

But according to the book, the younger prince was debating between a pilot costume and the Nazi get-up until William and Kate suggested the Nazi look. They “howled” with laughter after seeing Harry in the costume, he wrote.

William and Harry didn’t want their father to marry Camilla Parker Bowles

Charles’ wife, Queen consort Camilla Parker Bowles, has always been a bit of an outsider among the royal family. Harry said he and his brother “begged” Charles not to marry Camilla after their mother, Princess Diana, died.

Diana died in 1997; Charles and Camilla didn’t marry until 2005, when both boys had grown.

Harry “snapped” at Meghan during a tense fight

After a few drinks, Harry described himself as “touchy” and “over-sensitive” during a disagreement with Meghan, according to US Weekly, which obtained a copy of “Spare.”

He became “Disproportionately, sloppily angry” and “snapped at [Meghan], spoke to her harshly [and] cruelly,” the outlet reported.

Meghan left the room for several minutes before reentering and discussing the incident with an apologetic Harry. After the incident, she convinced him to try therapy again.

“The moment I started doing therapy, it opened my eyes,” he said in October 2022. “I was moving through life thinking there was only one way to live. And therapy burst that bubble.”
