Even though it feels like the ball just dropped and we just toasted to 2023, it has already been more than a week into a brand-new year. In the past days numerous events and trends have taken over the internet, setting the tone for 2024.

Here are 2024's top searches so far in the United States according to Google Trends:

Jan. 1, 2024 Alabama vs. Michigan, Texas football and Japan earthquake

The top trending search on the first day of 2024 was Alabama vs Michigan with over 5 million searches as the two teams faced off in the Rose Bowl. Michigan took down the Crimson Tide 27-20 in overtime, ending Alabama's season and advancing to the National Championships.

The number two search was Texas football with over two million searches as the Longhorns took on the Washington Huskies in the Sugar Bowl. Washington took the win 37-31, also advancing to the final on Jan. 8.

The third top search that day was the Japan earthquake with over 1 million searches.

Jan. 2, 2024 Harvard president, Aaron Rodgers and Japan plane crash

On Tuesday, Jan. 2 the top search was the Harvard president, Claudine Gay, who announced her resignation after accusations of plagiarism and anti-Semitic accusations. This topic had over 200,000 searches.

Aaron Rodgers took second on the list, also with over 200,000 searches, after Jimmy Kimmel fired back at him over a comment regarding the Jeffrey Epstein list.

Third on the list was the Japan plane crash which left five dead after the jet hit another aircraft at Haneda Airport in Tokyo.

Jan. 3, 2024 Epstein list, Tyreek Hill and Lakers

The long-awaited Epstein list, which turned out to be a newly released set of filings from a court case related to Jeffrey Epstein, was the number one search on Jan. 3 with over 2 million searches.

Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins was the number two search with over 200,000 searches after his home caught on fire. Thankfully, nobody was hurt in the fire, but his house was badly damaged.

The Lakers took third on the list with over 100,000 searches following a "deepening disconnect" between the Lakers players and their head coach Darvin Ham.

Jan. 4, 2024 Perry, Iowa; Glynis Johns and Las Vegas judge

The top search on Jan. 4 with over 500,000 searches was Perry, Iowa following a shooting at Perry High School near Des Moines, Iowa where one student was killed, and four students and one faculty member were injured.

The number two search was Glynis Johns with over 200,000 searches. The British actress and singer, famous for her role in Mary Poppins, died on Jan. 4 at 100 years old.

The Las Vegas judge who was attacked behind the stand was the number three search with over 100,000 searches.

Jan. 5, 2024 Christian Oliver, Michael Bolton and Connor Bedard

The number one search with over 1 million searches on Jan. 5 was actor Christian Oliver, who tragically died in a plane crash along with his two children and the pilot of the small plane.

Michael Bolton took the number two spot with over 50,000 searches after the Grammy award-winning musician announced his recovery from an emergency surgery to remove a brain tumor.

Chicago Blackhawk's player Connor Bedard took the third spot with over 50,000 searches after the star player took a hit that fractured his jaw during the first period against the New Jersey Devils.

Jan. 6, 2024 Golden Globes 2024, Bills and NFL playoff schedule

The Golden Globes 2024 took Saturday's top spot with over 2 million searches. The heavily anticipated event was star-studded, and awards went out to some of this year's top films and television series such as "Oppenheimer" and "Barbie."

The number two spot was the Bills with over 1 million searches as they prepared to take on the Miami Dolphins on Sunday night. The Buffalo Bills came out on top beating Miami 21-14 in the final game of the NFL regular season.

The NFL playoff schedule took the third spot, also with over 1 million searches as it was solidified by the past weekend's games. The playoffs will kick off with Wild Card Weekend starting on Jan. 13.

Jan. 7, 2024 Cowboys, Packers and Jo Koy

Finally, day seven of 2024 was led by the Cowboys with over 2 million searches as they took down the Washington Commanders to win the NFC East and clinched the number two seed in the conference.

The Packers took the second-place spot on Sunday with over 1 million searches as they beat the Chicago Bears at Lambeau Field, clinching a playoff spot with Jordan Love, a first-season full-time quarterback who is making Packers history.

Finally, Jo Koy was the third trending search on Sunday. The comedian and actor received some backlash after his performance as host of the Golden Globes. He has since acknowledged that it was an "off night" for him.
