If you've forgotten a key ingredient for mashed potatoes or need a can of cranberry sauce on Thanksgiving, there are few stores open in Tulare County.

But, shoppers need to remember that many stores open for the holiday will have adjusted hours.

Save Mart locations will be open on Thanksgiving but will close early at 5 p.m. Winco Foods in both Visalia and Tulare will also be open. Most WinCo Foods locations are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week; only closing at 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving, part of Christmas Eve and all of Christmas Day.

Other grocery stores like Smart & Final and Food 4 Less will also be open on Thanksgiving.

For nearly a decade, big box stores like Target and Walmart opened for Black Friday sales Thursday afternoon. Following the 2020 COVID-19 statewide curfew, many stores opted to close on the holiday in order to minimize large gatherings.

Many stores will continue that trend, despite COVID-19 many restrictions being lifted.

"Our resilient team members used all they’d learned in 2020 to bring those experiences to life—and our results show those efforts resonated," Target officials stated in January. "In fact, guests loved our new approach so much that we’ve already decided to carry one change forward (and we’re telling you here first): Our Target stores will be closed all day on Thanksgiving Day 2021."

If you're celebrating the holiday alone or with fewer guests, you can skip the stress of cooking and instead purchase a prepared meal.

Sizzler is offering Thanksgiving dinner pack, which serves about six guests. The meal includes two pounds of roasted turkey, two pounds of stuffing, three pounds of mashed potatoes, 12 ounces of gravy, 20 ounces green beans, and three pounds of sweet potato casserole.

The meals are available for pick up only on Tuesday and Wednesday. Denny's also offers a prepared Thanksgiving dinner option.

Other eateries like IHOP, Applebee's, Denny's, Subway and Starbucks will be open.
