This is the most underrated restaurant in Fresno, poll says. Why you can’t walk in the door

We asked Fresno Bee readers in an online poll what they thought was the most underrated restaurant in town.

The winner was clear: My Guy Market.

This is a pickup and delivery only place selling New York-style chopped cheese sandwiches and operating out of a commercial kitchen with no dining room on Belmont Avenue.

We’ll walk you through how to get the food from this nontraditional spot, but first, let’s take a look at the runners-up. Readers submitted nominees and we turned the top five most nominated into a poll that they could vote on.

My Guy Market got 65% of the vote.

Second place with 22% of the vote: Bowlzeye Fusion Restaurant, an Asian fusion restaurant serving rice, potato and salad bowls at the northeast corner of Bullard and Minnewawa avenues in Clovis.

Third place with 12% of the vote: Sizzle & Steam, a Vietnamese street food restaurant in the former Pho Fresno spot at Maroa and Shields avenues.

In fourth and fifth place, both with 1% of the vote, were Libelula in downtown Fresno and Dervo’s Deli on Shaw Avenue across from Fresno State.

My Guy is a takeout restaurant, a ghost kitchen, a virtual bodega — essentially all of the above.

Bee reporter Joshua Tehee told us all about the place and the character behind it — Eddie Wutangsy and his “energetic chaos” — in January. You can read his whole story in our food and drink section online.

My Guy Market has quite a social media following, who came out in force to vote for the business.

Wutangsy specializes in sandwiches, especially the chopped cheese. It’s ground beef, two slices of American cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion topped with ketchup and mayonnaise.

There’s also a bacon and cherry pepper version, along with a vegetarian option made with mushrooms and optional vegan cheese, and a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich.

It also sells the type of things you can find at a New York bodega: toilet paper, condoms, a Bic lighter.

It operates out of a commissary kitchen, the type of place where food trucks and other businesses do their prep work. There is no place to sit down and eat.

So how do you get their food in your mouth?

Make an order, either online via the website or by downloading the My Guy app on your phone. You can have your food delivered or pick it up in person at the Hot Spot Kitchen at 504 E. Belmont Ave. near Palm Avenue.
