From Prevention

These days, it seems as if everyone has jumped on the wellness bandwagon, often flooding you with conflicting points of view. It can be confusing, but Mother Nature is a brilliant teacher: Across our planet, plants and other organisms remove toxins from the water and soil—and you too possess this innate ability to filter. At the heart of it is your capacity to choose. Try these strategies from Prevention and the Global Wellness Institute to make the best choices for you:

Seek Worthwhile Sources

Think about the people and outlets that influence your opinions on wellness. Are these sources credible? Are they open to other points of view? Or are they well-meaning but ultimately unable to back up their own advice? When you’ve filtered out the inputs that don’t meet your standards, replace them with resources that better fit your needs.

Learn to Listen to Yourself

Don’t lose sight of what you know inherently. One of your best filtering tools can be your ability to listen to yourself. Plug into your own wisdom by spending a few minutes each day reflecting on your wellness journey, then write down your insights, adding to them as new ideas come.

Find Silver Linings

Crises often reveal the gifts we genuinely value— our physical health, our relationships, our freedoms—and help us clarify those that no longer serve our well-being. The coronavirus pandemic has been a struggle, but we can reevaluate our priorities and even mine this crisis for good.
