Mother and baby in hospital after man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder
A woman is fighting for her life and a baby girl has suffered “potentially life threatening injuries” following reports of an assault at a house.
Emergency services rushed to a property on The Leasowes in Tipton, West Midlands, after responding to a call at around 12.30am on Thursday morning.
Armed police arrested a man, 32, on suspicion of attempted murder.
The female victim was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital in a critical condition, while the baby was also taken away for further treatment.
West Midlands Police said the seven-month-old child was in a serious condition in hospital after what they describe as a domestic incident.
The force said the suspect remains in custody and they are not seeking any futher individuals in relation to the incident.
A statement from West Midlands Police said: “A 32-year-old man was arrested by armed officers from the property on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.
“A 37-year-old woman is currently in hospital in a stable condition to be treated for a stab wound to her hand, along with her seven-month-old baby who is in a serious condition, having suffered multiple injuries.
“Officers are not searching for anyone else in relation to this incident.”
A spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called by the police at 00:29am to an assault at a property in The Leasowes in Tipton. We sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a BASICS doctor to the scene.
"We treated a woman, who was in a critical condition, at the scene before taking her on blue lights to hospital.
"Crews also treated a baby girl for potentially life threatening injuries before taking her on blue lights to hospital for further treatment."
