Mother bear gets help from officials to free cubs stuck in deep well, CA video shows

A ladder saved the day after three bears fell into a deep well and got stuck.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife said Monday that three bears fell into a culvert near Monrovia that led to a water source and got stuck, officials said.

“Our officers grabbed a tall ladder and headed to the location, where they discovered a vertical culvert that led to an underground water source,” Fish and Wildlife said. “They placed the ladder in the wide pipe and then backed off, giving the bears the opportunity to climb out on their own.”

Within a few hours, the mother bear and her two cubs came climbing out of the well and ran off into the woods, Fish and Wildlife said.

“The work of the officers wasn’t quite done,” officials said. “They returned Sunday to retrieve the ladder and cover the culvert to prevent other wildlife from falling in.”
