Mother’s Day in Orlando offers opportunities to bond with mom this weekend

Mother’s Day is May 8, a day dedicated to expressing gratitude and love toward moms and other maternal figures. It’s a day often filled with family time, gifts, good food and great company. In Orlando, there are many events that offer the chance to bond with mom. Here are a few.

  • Lukas Nursery & Butterfly Encounter hosts a Mother’s Day Orchid Show with special flowers on display and on sale during store hours this weekend. Find these arrangements 8 a.m.-6 p.m. May 6-7 and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. May 8 at 1909 Slavia Road in Oviedo. More information: lukasnursery.com

  • The Hannibal Square May Festival brings together the community for Cinco de Mayo, spring graduation and Mother’s Day with festivities May 5-12 in Winter Park. The event includes live music, Mother’s Day offerings and merchants offering discounts. More information: hannibalsquare.org

  • The Sanford Historic Garden Tour provides a self-guided tour of 12 private residential gardens to celebrate Mother’s Day weekend with eight plant and wildlife nonprofit educators on the way. Enjoy the architecture, wraparound porches, verandas and manicured gardens. Within the Sanford Historic District, visitors can also find plein-air painters, refreshments and music stops.   • Adventure Cycling in Winter Springs is offering a jump jam and family fun day for riders of all ages during Mother’s Day weekend. Mountain bikers can test their skills with jumping, and all visitors can enjoy learning about local trails and riding opportunities. Join for a community bike ride, then enjoy lunch, ice cream and a raffle. The festivities go from 9 a.m.-2 p.. May 7 at 1491 E. State Road 434 in Winter Springs. More information: facebook.com

  • Mead Botanical Garden will host “Mommy and Me Yoga” to help celebrate Mother’s Day weekend. The class is recommended for moms and children ages 4-12. Tickets cost $12 per family.   • Apopka Amphitheater hosts a “Saturday Sounds” concert series and My Generation will entertain crowds during Mother’s Day weekend. The band specializes in classic rock ‘n’ roll.   • Lakeridge Winery & Vineyards in Clermont hosts guests every Saturday and Sunday for “weekends at the winery.” Treat mom to food, live entertainment and wine by the glass from an outdoor bar.   • The Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour, which has been hosting guests since 1938, has pontoon tours setting out on the Winter Park chain of lakes 10 a.m.-4 p.m. (on the hour) every day of the year except for Christmas.   • Leu Gardens is a popular spot for Orlando families to spend time outdoors, especially for moms who have a green thumb or appreciate beautiful botanicals. Moms receive free admission on their special day, May 8. Admission for other guests is $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 4-17, active-duty military and veterans.   • Orange County Regional History Center is free for mothers and all caregivers on Mother’s Day. The local educational experience extends the offer to grandma or anyone else who plays an important caring role. Take advantage from noon-5 p.m. May 8 at 65 E. Central Blvd. in Orlando.   • The House on Lang is hosting a Mother’s Day flower arrangement workshop open to all flower lovers, including moms, sisters, besties and anyone else. Learn how to design a beautiful floral bouquet for $85 (per arrangement). The workshop is 2-4 p.m. May 8 at 1308 Lang Ave. in Orlando. Earlier in the weekend, families can explore a Mother’s Day weekend pop-up with local makers and Mother’s Day cookie decorating (a separately ticketed event), both on May 7.
