Mother’s Day in Orlando: Ways to celebrate mom this weekend

Mother’s Day is May 14, a day dedicated to expressing gratitude and love toward moms, grandmothers and other maternal figures. It’s a day often filled with family time, gifts, good food and great company.

In Orlando, there are many events that offer the chance to bond with mom. Here are a few.

Enzian Theater, which recently wrapped up its annual role of hosting the Florida Film Festival, brings guests a Mother’s Day brunch and classic film. Savor the food spread while enjoying the 1953 film, “Roman Holiday.” All visitors can enjoy live music, a brunch buffet and their first mimosa free. The Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour, which has been hosting guests since 1938, has pontoon tours setting out on the Winter Park chain of lakes 10 a.m.-4 p.m. (on the hour) every day of the year except for Christmas. Treat mom to an hour on the water, complete with views of cypress trees, tropical vegetation, fun facts and local history. Tours are $16 for adults or $8 for ages 2-11 and set off from 312 E. Leu Gardens is a popular spot for Orlando families to spend time outdoors, especially for moms who have a green thumb or appreciate beautiful botanicals. Moms receive free admission on their special day, May 14. Admission for other guests is $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 4-17, active-duty military and veterans. Wander the 50-acre space to see roses, caladiums, poinciana, crepe myrtles and more. The gardens are open daily 9-5 p.m. at 1920 N. Forest Ave. in Orlando. More information: leugardens.org

Orange County Regional History Center is free for mothers and all caregivers on Mother’s Day. The local educational experience extends the offer to grandma or anyone else who plays an important caring role. Take advantage from noon-5 p.m. May 8 at 65 E. Central Blvd. in Orlando. Astro Skate Orlando is hosting a Mother’s Day Skate where moms skate free with their children, in addition to getting free soda and pizza. Skate rental costs extra. Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens offers moms and grandmas free admission on Mother’s Day. Each free admission must be accompanied by a paid admission and must be purchased at the gate. The deal is available 9 a.m.-4 p.m. May 14 at 3755 W. Seminole Blvd. in Sanford. More information: centralfloridazoo.org

Boardwalk Bowl, Aloma Bowl and Airport Lanes invite moms to bowl free when accompanied by a paying child. The deal includes two games and shoes on May 14. More information: alomabowlingcenters.com

Elev8 Fun in Sanford is helping to make Mother’s Day special by allowing moms to eat free when accompanied by a child. The deal is valid when purchasing a kids’ meal or another entrée. Families can also enjoy an arcade, go-karts, bowling and other indoor attractions in the 125,000-square-foot space.
