Mother faces felony DUI charges after 3-year-old killed in car accident

May 4—A Graniteville woman is facing felony driving under the influence charges after her son was killed in Wednesday night accident in Aiken County.

Ronesha Quattlebaum, 25 of Graniteville, was arrested and charged May 3 with felony DUI in relation to fatal accident, according to Lcpl. Tyler Tidwell with South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables identified the victim as 3-year-old Journi Quattlebaum.

Shortly after 8 p.m. on May 3, the driver of a 2015 Nissan Altima and her child were traveling west on the 1700 block of Salley Road when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road, hit an embankment and overturned after striking a utility pole, Ables said.

Journi Quattlebaum was pronounced dead at the scene and will be autopsied in Newberry, Ables said.

Tidwell said Ronesha Quattlebaum was identified as the driver and was charged.

Tidwell said Quattlebaum is being held at the Aiken County detention center with no bond.

She has a bond hearing scheduled for Thursday, Tidwell said.

The accident is being investigated by the Aiken County Coroner's Office, South Carolina Highway Patrol and South Carolina Highway High Multiple Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team.
