Mother files second lawsuit against Baton Rouge after son killed in crash

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The mother whose son was killed in the car crash involving the police filed a second federal lawsuit against the city of Baton Rouge, former Police Chief Murphy Paul, and Officer Charmaine Buckley.

According to court documents, Theresa Chappetta, the mother of Caleb Chappetta, filed a federal lawsuit against the city for wrongful death claims for her son.

Chappetta was involved in an officer-car crash where Buckley reportedly ran a red light at the intersection of Government Street and S. Foster Street, going 80 mph while responding to a call on Oct. 20, 2023. Chappetta was killed and others were injured.

Baton Rouge police investigating deadly shooting

Buckley was arrested and charged with negligent homicide.
