Mother of missing Montezuma boy Xavior Harrelson sentenced for selling meth

The mother of a Montezuma boy who went missing in May 2021 was given two years probation for selling meth.

Sarah Harrelson, 43, pleaded guilty in January to delivery of a controlled substance, a class C felony. Court records said Harrelson sold $620 worth of meth to an undercover police officer in February 2022.

Her plea came with a recommendation of up to 10 years in prison, but a judge Tuesday decided to suspend Harrelson's 10-year sentence and instead put her on two years of probation.

Harrelson is the mother of Xavior Harrelson, who was reported missing from his home in northwest Montezuma on May 27, 2021, just days before his 11th birthday. More than four months later, a farmer tending to his soybean crop in rural Poweshiek County discovered the boy's remains about four miles away from the Harrelson home.

No arrests have been made in connection with the boy's disappearance and death. Mitch Mortvedt, spokesperson for the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, said the investigation is ongoing and there are no updates in the case. Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact DCI or the Poweshiek County Sheriff's Department.
