Mother searching for answers after 14-year-old son shot dead in Southern California
A San Bernardino mother is devastated after her 14-year-old son was shot and killed last month.
Denise Gutierrez is hoping to find answers to why her only child was killed on the afternoon of March 27.
“It’s just a parent’s worst nightmare to have to go through this,” Gutierrez said to KTLA 5’s Jennifer McGraw. “You don’t wish it on your worst enemy.”
Aydan Rodriguez was home with his family when they heard some sort of disturbance in their neighborhood. 9-1-1 dispatch received numerous calls about juveniles shooting guns in the 1200 block of Acacia Avenue around 3:30 p.m.
Denise says Aydan stepped out of their home to check on the scene and never returned.
“I just don’t understand why somebody would take a life of another person,” Denise said. “That’s why we want the answer to who would hurt my son?”
Gutierrez says Aydan was a good kid, who had no enemies. The 14-year-old loved playing baseball and his mom says Aydan was never in trouble with the law or at school.
“He was just a kid,” Gutierrez said. “His 15th birthday was coming up, two months to the day of his death.”
Gutierrez and her family are hopeful that a witness or someone from the community will come forward with more information about the shooting.
“Our family is just asking if you could please help get justice for him,” she said. “No child should lose their life like this, and no family, father or mother should go through this pain.”
A GoFundMe has been set up for the family.
