When first responders arrived, they said they found a 12-year-old boy with critical burns to more than half of his body. His mom also had burns, though they were considered to be less severe as she rushed to put out the fire that was engulfing her son.

Becraft said the boy was flown to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City while his mother was taken to a local hospital up north. Their current condition is currently unknown.

An investigation into what led to the burns is ongoing, according to Becraft, however, it appears the boy was attempting to start a campfire using gasoline.
