Mother of two killed by car while giving her sister gas on Highway 385, family says

A Collierville family was left devastated and searching for answers after a woman they loved was killed in a crash on Highway 385.

The deadly crash happened Sunday, November 13.

Ashley Brooks, a 32-year-old mother of two, drove out to the highway to refuel her sister and brother-in-law who had run out of gas, Brooks’ family told FOX13.

Near the Kirby Parkway exit ramp, Brooks pulled over and filled up the gas tank on the side of the road.

Ashley Brooks, 32, died after being hit by a car while helping refuel her sister on Highway 385 on Sunday November 13, according to her family.

That’s when tragedy struck, ending Brooks’ life and leaving the lives of her loved ones changed forever.

“The car got off the exit going 70 mph and hit my daughter’s car, Ashley’s car, and turned around and hit the black car when they were standing behind it,” said Ashley Brooks’ mother Gail Brooks. “It hit Ashley 10 feet from the car.”

A police report filed from that day shows that Ashley’s car was legally parked on the exit ramp. That report also shows that no alcohol or drug test was given to the driver who hit her.

Gail Brooks is still questioning why no arrests have been made in connection to her daughter’s death and is frustrated by a lack of communication.

“Somebody should have called and told me that (my) daughter was involved in an accident and she didn’t make it,” Gail Brooks said. “Every time we call them we get no answer.”

While the family mourns Ashley’s death, Gail Brooks said her son-in-law is on life support and has two broken legs.

With the holidays right around the corner, Ashley’s two boys, seven and eight, are left without a mother.

“These boys were her everything,” Gail Brooks said. “They were her world.”

FOX13 reached out to Memphis Police for an update on this investigation. MPD had not responded by the time this story was published.
