Comedy, wine and live music: 5 things to do around Peoria this weekend

May is full of activities. Here are five events you might want to check out in the Peoria area this Mother's Day weekend.

Wine & Whiskers fundraiser

The Peoria Humane Society will hold its eighth annual Wine & Whiskers fundraiser on Friday, May 6, at the Trailside Event Center in Peoria Heights. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the fun continues until 8 p.m., with musical entertainment from Patio Daddio’s, hors d’oeuvres catered by Angel Food, silent auction baskets, live auction with select items, wine pull and a special guest appearance by feline friends. Live auction items include a family friendly vacation package near Table Rock Lake, Missouri; a St. Louis getaway; a Peoria Zoo experience; and original artwork from a local artist. Tickets are $50 and are available online at www.peoriahs.org.

EP!C Art and Garden Party

Come see what’s growing in the EP!C Harvest greenhouse and explore work from featured EP!Casso artists at the annual Art and Garden Party being held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 7, at EP!C, 1913 W. Townline Road. The event will include hanging plant baskets, a succulent bar, custom-made planters and individual succulents and flowers for sale. You can also sign up for a weekly or bi-weekly CSA share to get fresh, local, naturally grown produce this season. Admission is free.

Spring It On Outdoor Market

Five Points Washington will host its second annual Spring It On Outdoor Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at 360 N. Wilmor Road, Washington. This event will be held in the South End parking lot. The free event will feature a variety of local vendors and businesses, live music, food trucks and a cash bar featuring specialty drinks.

Flanagan House Museum tours

The John C. Flanagan House Museum, 924 NE Glen Oak Ave., will offer buy-one-get-one-free guided tours from 1 to 4 p.m. on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 8. The 1837 American Federalist-style house is the oldest standing house in Peoria and includes antiques, period furnishings, vintage tools and kitchen gadgets and memorabilia from Peoria's past. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for college and high school students and $3 for ages 6-12. Proceeds benefit the Peoria Historical Society.

Mother's Day Comedy Jam

The DeRay Davis "On My Momma" Mother's Day Comedy Jam will be presented at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 8, at the Peoria Civic Center Theater. The show will feature DeRay Davis, Aida Rodriguez, Morgan Jay and other special guests. Tickets start at $32 and are available at www.peoriaciviccenter.com.
