ACROSS ILLINOIS — Mother's Day 2020 will be a little different due to the coronavirus shutdown and social distancing, but that didn't stop these Illinois Patch readers from showing the moms in their lives a little bit of love. To Sharon Dwyer from Kelly Braun of Woodridge

"My mom has a heart full of love for everyone she knows. To know her, is to love her as well. She is kind to a fault, generous, creative, forgiving and so genuine. When people talk about “Sharon”, the first thing they always say is “she is just the sweetest woman I know”. My mom worked extremely hard her whole life... she was a full time Office manager for two very busy companies and managed to raise four kids, with some help from my dad, but very independently. My siblings and I have learned so much about kindness and generosity by watching my mother care for everyone around her. Despite any hardships I have ever had in my life, I can never get very discouraged because I know how incredibly God has blessed me. My mom is a unique, perfect example of what a Mom should be in every regard. I truly have the best mom there is. I love you, Mom!!"

To Judy Dejarld from Steven Dejarld of Joliet

"Mother you have been an inspiration to so many people around you. You have made it possible for others to continue down their path of life with your generosity and wisdom. I thank god often for giving me a mother as you. I hope this message is just part of a great Mother’s Day!! With love your son Steven"

To Leslie Hresja from Morgan Hresja of Downers Grove

"My mom, Leslie, is a tireless worker and caregiver, who has taught both my sister and me the values of compassion and empathy. Over the past 15 years, she has lost her sister and parents, and now my father is slipping away to Alzheimer's. She has often put herself second to other's health needs, but always serves as an advocate for them to get the best possible care. Recently, my dad was diagnosed with Covid-19, and once again, my mom used all her resources to try to help with his care. She has a big birthday coming up this spring, and it is looking more and more likely that the plans we had to celebrate her will not happen. We are so proud of her, the love she shares, and the way she looks to making the everyday special, even when things are challenging. We love you, Mom."

To Virginia Pacheco-Perez from Tresea Lollar of Joliet

"My mom died in 2007, but she left many lessons that resonate in these Pandemic Times. She was about 10 years old and hospitalized in Austria when Hitler annexed the country in 1937. Just before her 18th birthday she was in Dresden, training to be a nurse, when the Allies firebombed the city. It took 3 days for her hospital to be dug out from the rubble. My mom learned how to survive traumatic events the hard way. Throughout her life, my mom urged me to think for myself and use my head in order to overcome obstacles. Her favorite quote was from Winston Churchill: 'If you’re going through hell, keep going.' Those words help me to keep putting one foot in front of the other during these scary, chaotic times."
