Motor City Pride, night markets and an art bash: 5 things to do in metro Detroit

Downtown Detroit will offer an abundance of activities centered around music, food and outdoor enjoyment this weekend. Hart Plaza will come alive as Motor City Pride makes its return; Beacon Park will transform into a marketplace, and to the east of downtown, immerse yourself in rich cultural and architectural heritage at the Indian Village Home & Garden Tour.

North of Detroit, the Berkley Art Bash will showcase artistic talents, and an event in Rochester will support Leader Dogs for the Blind.

Here are five things to do for the weekend of June 9:

Indian Village Home & Garden Tour

During this walking tour, view the interior of six private homes built between 1895 and 1920, four private gardens, historic churches and the private Detroit Waldorf School. A 40-vendor art market, live jazz entertainment and food trucks will be at Centennial Garden.

Shuttles will be available for those that choose not to walk the neighborhood.

10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 12:30-5:30 p.m. Sunday. $40 tickets are available online at historicindianvillage.org and the day of event at Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church at 8625 E. Jefferson in Detroit.

21st Annual Berkley Art Bash

This event presented by the Berkley Chamber of Commerce will have more than 150 artists and makers, live music, food and kids activities in downtown Berkley.

10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday along 12 Mile Road between Coolidge and Greenfield. Free admission.

Motor City Pride Detroit

Motor City Pride returns to downtown Detroit this weekend with a festival lined with entertainment that will include live music, drag shows and more. There will also be vendors selling food, merchandise and sharing services for the LGBTQ community.

The parade starts at noon Sunday at Griswold and Fort streets before the festival gates open.

1-9 p.m. Saturday and 12:30-7 p.m. Sunday at Hart Plaza, 1 West Jefferson in Detroit. Parade viewing is free, entrance into the festival is $5. No charge for youth 12 and younger.

Bark & Brew + Bark & Brew 5K

This seventh annual family event to support Leader Dogs for the Blind presented by Chief Financial Credit Union will include Rochester Mills brews, food, live music, a kids’ zone with inflatables, carnival games, rock-climbing wall and more.

Meet and greet future leader dogs, leader dogs in training and working leader dogs.

The 5K and 1-mile run/walk will include free entry to Bark & Brew after the run and one free beverage.

9 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday at Rochester Mills Beer Company at 400 Water in Rochester. Tickets are $10 in advance; $15 at the door for ages 21 & older and free for ages 20 and younger. A kids’ play area wristband is $5. Personal dogs are not allowed.

Night Markets at Beacon Park

Beacon Park will transform into a marketplace where visitors can shop a rotating list of Detroit-based makers and entrepreneurs, listen to live music from bands and DJ’s, and get food from several food trucks.

The season opening act will be pop-rock quintet Mike Mains & the Branches.

Night Markets at Beacon Park will be open 6-10 p.m. Saturdays through Aug. 26 at Beacon Park, 1901 Grand River in Detroit. Admission and activities are free.
