Victim identified in Friday morning motorcycle accident in Des Moines

Update 3 p.m. May 28:

The Des Moines Police Department has released the identity of the motorcyclist killed in a fatal crash Friday morning.

The man has been identified as William Lewis Kinney IV, 41, of Des Moines.

At approximately 10:56 a.m. Friday, Des Moines police and fire departments responded to reports of a motorcycle crash at Southeast 3rd Street and Watrous Avenue.

First responders arrived to find the motorcycle operator critically injured — life-saving measures were taken and the first responders transported the motorcycle operator to a local hospital, according to a news release from Des Moines police Sgt. Paul Parizek.

Kinney died from his injuries Friday afternoon.

A cause of the accident is yet to be established. Police did point out skid marks and gouging on the road — which can indicate excessive speeds and may be a cause..

Police are also searching for a vehicle that left the scene near the crash whose driver may be able to help establish the cause of the accident. The vehicle was last seen going westbound on Watrous.
