GENOA TWP. — The man killed in a motorcycle crash on Monday, April 10, in Genoa Township has been identified as James Hooks of Milford.

"If you had the honor of knowing James, you know how lucky you are. James was one of the most intentional people to walk this earth. He was a proud father and fiancé. He was a multi-Guinness Book of World Records holder for lifting and body building. A cancer survivor. He was a talented and driven executive sous chef and possibly most importantly, a genuine friend and mentor," Hawkins wrote on the GoFundMe page.

"James made everyone he crossed paths with feel like they absolutely mattered because, to him, they did. I am fundraising on behalf of James and his family to try and lighten this load of new burdens that have to be beared."

According to a social media post Thursday, Hooks was the sous chef at Howell's Log Cabin.

"His character, personality and strength will be forever missed by all of us," the business' post read. "His smile lit up any room he walked in. His presence was something to be proud of and will be missed tremendously."

Hooks was driving a 1985 Honda and traveling east on Grand River Avenue when he struck a 2012 Dodge Ram operated by a 20-year-old Howell man exiting Midtown Market, according to the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.

He was transported to the University of Michigan Hospital, where he died from his injuries. The driver of the Dodge Ram and his passenger, a 22-year-old Howell woman, were not injured in the crash.

Police said speed and alcohol didn't appear to be factors.
