Motorcyclist, 21, dies in Brooklyn after slamming into back of SUV making U-turn near Fort Hamilton

A motorcyclist died after he slammed into the back of an SUV making a U-turn outside Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, police said Saturday.

Jason Gans, 21, was heading east on Poly Place at Seventh Ave. in Bay Ridge about 2:05 p.m. Friday when a 54-year-old man driving a 2009 Chevrolet HHR in front of him swerved into the opposite lane outside the US Army base, cops said.

Gans tried to veer out of the way, but struck the rear of the SUV and was thrown from the motorcycle.

EMS rushed Gans to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where he died of his injuries.

Gans lived in Bergen Beach, about 10 miles from where he crashed.

The SUV driver remained at the scene, cops said. No charges were immediately filed.
